WYPR- Your Public Radio 88.1 FM "Growing Up Baltimore" Town Hall Meeting

DETAILS:

When: Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 – 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Where: Enoch Pratt Free Library, 400 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD Wheeler Auditorium

Panelists: Donald DeVore, Secretary of the Department of Juvenile Services;
Dr. Jacquelyn Duval-Harvey, deputy City Health com...missioner; Kim Armstrong, parent advocate; Satya Godfrey, aspiring writer and Baltimore high school graduate; Janet Hankin, Assistant City State’s Attorney

Moderator: Charles Robinson, reporter, Maryland Public Television

We know. You’ve been to town hall meetings and community forums before where everyone talks about helping Baltimore’s kids grow up safely, with a real future. Too much talk, you say. We want action.

We at WYPR don’t disagree. But we think talk can be good: comparing notes, listening to real people, learning you’re not alone in the struggle. Everyone needs to be accountable.

We don’t think our city’s found a comprehensive solution yet, though there are good starts down the road we want to travel. And there are questions that are still to be answered. How do we achieve accountability? Is there a way to get everyone on the same page? Can we mount an offensive that’s big enough to meet the challenge?

We think the answer is yes, to all these questions. We’re currently airing a series of reports called “Growing Up Baltimore.” One finding: kids in the city don’t give up. We can’t either.

WYPR- Your Public Radio 88.1 FM Check out Maryland Morning's brand new blog! The logo is new, and the site is already making waves. Just this morning The Baltimore Sun linked to MD Morn's story on the city council's bill on crisis pregnancy centers.

WYPR- Your Public Radio 88.1 FM Ah, the joys of volunteering at WYPR. Sure there's the glitz and glam of answering phones and meeting on air personalities, but there's also the more humble side of folding letters and stuffing envelopes. Karen and Kim work diligently on letters to be mailed to new WYPR members. So when you open your new member let...ter, know that Karen and Kim folded and stuffed it with WYPR volunteer love!

Shannon - yes, my lovely long hair's all gone (going so bald up top these days that my sister called my old 'do a "skullet"). One of the "joys" of getting older.
Conrad - how could ANYONE forget Guy Fawkes day?!? I've been working on my "Guy" for the past couple weeks.
And to EVERYONE who has pledged so far during the campaign - THANKS SO MUCH! ... See MoreIt's your contributions that keep WYPR on the air, which is where we so much want to be. If we haven't heard from you yet, please give us a call (410-235-2395) or give online at wypr.org. Many thanks, again!
