You can view your ad as well as all the statistics related to the ads you have created on the Ad Campaigns page of the Ads Manager. On this page you can change your cost per click or CPM at any time while your ads are running, pause or unpause your ads, and delete your ads.

You will not see your ad actually running on Facebook unless you are a member of the target audience that you selected for your ad. Additionally, even if you are a member, you aren’t guaranteed to see your ad. This doesn't mean your ad isn't running, just that our system has determined that other ads would be more relevant to you. As long as you are seeing impressions reported in your ad statistics, this means your ad is running and can be seen by users.

Facebook Ads display in the right side column on Facebook pages in the Ad Space. In the Ad Space, up to three ads may show at one time on any given page. These right-hand spaces might include three Facebook ads or one Facebook ad and one banner ad. In the second case, the banner ad will always appear below the Facebook ad.

For any given page, Facebook selects the best ads to run based on the cost per click or cost per thousand impressions and ad performance. The ad that is estimated to perform the best is placed in the first position, the next best estimated performer is placed in the second, and then the third. We have a process in place that will automatically calculate the minimum price that the advertiser could pay and still have the highest cost per click or CPM ad, and the advertiser will only be billed that price. This price may be below the advertiser’s maximum cost per click or CPM.

Please note that you are not guaranteed any number of clicks or impressions. For any given ad unit, we select the best ad to run based on the cost per click or cost per thousand impressions and ad performance. Therefore, if you are not receiving as many clicks or impressions as you would like, we suggest increasing your maximum cost per click or maximum CPM. We also suggest making sure your ad is as relevant as possible by targeting your ad to the most appropriate audience. Your ad is more likely to perform better and continue running successfully if it is being displayed to the users who are likely to be the most interested in your ad and click on your ad.

With Facebook Ads, you are not guaranteed any set number of clicks or impressions. Fluctuations in traffic are normal and can be related to a number of different factors, including increased competition for the audience you are targeting.

For any given ad unit, our system selects the best ad to run. This is based on the CPC or CPM that you have set, as well as your ad’s past performance. This means that if your ad has performed well in the past, it has a better chance of showing up in the future.

If you’re not receiving as many clicks or impressions as you’d like, you might want to try increasing your maximum CPC or CPM. We also suggest making sure that your ad is as relevant as possible by targeting your ad to the most appropriate audience. Your ad is likely to perform better and continue running successfully if it is being displayed to the users who will find it most useful and relevant.

  • I just created my ads within the hour.

  • If you’ve just created your ads, please check back in an hour. It is possible that your ad is receiving clicks/impressions but the statistics have not updated yet. Under normal circumstances, your ad will begin being served within an hour and statistics will be available within an hour.

  • For any given ad unit, we select the best ad to run based on the cost per click or cost per thousand impressions and ad performance. We have a process in place that will automatically calculate the minimum price that the advertiser could pay and still have the highest cost per click or CPM ad, and the advertiser will only be billed that price. This price may be below the advertiser’s maximum cost per click or CPM. Because we lower the cost per click or CPM on your behalf, we recommend that you enter your true maximum cost per click or CPM when creating an ad. This will increase the likelihood that you do not miss out on clicks or impressions that you otherwise could have received.

You can view and change the run dates of your campaign by clicking through to the individual campaign and changing its settings at the top of the page.

The start date for the campaign will be autofilled based on the date and time you began your campaign. Please note that if you select "No end date", your campaign will run until you choose to stop it. If you'd like your campaign to stop automatically on a certain date, be sure to set that date in these options. However, note that completed campaigns can't be restarted, so if you're going to want to run a campaign intermittently, you may want to manually pause and restart it as needed.

You can stop or restart your ads by editing the "Status" at the top of the ad's page, or clicking on an ad's status when viewing in the Ads Manager's campaign view. "Deleted" ads can never be restarted, while "paused" ads can, so pause your ads if you may want to run them again. To restart paused ads, simply change their status back to "Active".

If your entire campaign is currently paused, you won't be able to restart individual ads. First unpause your campaign in order to run these ads again.

When you run your ad you will only be charged for the number of clicks you receive (CPC) or the number of impressions of your ad that are displayed (CPM). Paused or deleted ads will not accrue new charges.

When you choose to edit an ad, you'll be taken to the ad creation page with the ad creative, targeting, scheduling and payments fields pre-populated with your existing ad settings. The changes you make will replace your existing ad. Once you submit your changes, your ad will stop running until the new version has been approved by the Facebook Ads Team.

Ad edits cannot be undone. If you'd like to change your ad back to a previous version, you'll need to edit it again and make the desired changes.

If you see an objectionable advertisement and the web address (URL) in your browser window begins with "http://apps.facebook.com/", this is most likely an advertisement running within an external application and not through Facebook. However, Facebook believes that ads are most effective when they are relevant and meet user expectations for a valuable and trusted experience.

Facebook is committed to providing the best user experience possible and we continue to investigate ads that violate our policies. We also encourage developers and ad networks to maintain high quality applications and advertising practices and may take further action against developers who host ads that violate our policy.

If you have confirmed that the advertisement is running within an external application, you can report it to both the developer of that application and to Facebook by clicking on the "Report" link in the lower-left of the page.

If the advertisement is on Facebook, please follow the instructions listed here to report the advertisement.

As part of these initiatives, we are focused on designing Platform in a way that we can run core Facebook applications on the same set of APIs you're building on. This means a common set of APIs will be shared by us and third parties, as well as a commitment to building our site on top of fewer abstractions. With all of us working together, it will be critical for Facebook Platform to be efficient and optimized for speed. If our technologies aren't fast, robust and simple, we will feel the same pains that you do.

There are a variety of reasons why Facebook may issue an advertising credit. Such credits will be automatically added to your ad account's funding sources, and when you run ads, the charges will first be deducted from the credit before your credit card is charged.

If our system detects that there have been invalid clicks on your account, we may automatically credit your account with the value of those clicks. Please note that we filter out some clicks for a variety of reasons before they ever appear in your reports or charges. We may issue a credit if we identify certain clicks as invalid after you've been charged for them.

Similarly, if there are any issues on our end that interfere with the correct delivery of your ads, Facebook may issue a credit equal to the value of any incorrectly delivered clicks.

Ads: Glossary of Ad Terms

For each ad impression, our ad auction system selects the best ad to run based on the ads' maximum bids and ad performance. All Facebook Ads compete against each other in this process, and the ad that our system determines is most likely to be successful will be shown.

If you'd like to make your ad more competitive in the auction, you may want to raise your bid. Because we will only charge you the bid necessary to win the auction, which may be lower that the maximum bid you've set for your ads, we recommend you enter your true maximum bid. This will increase the likelihood that you do not miss out on clicks or impressions that you otherwise could have received. We also recommend you refine your targeting to make sure you are reaching a relevant audience that is more likely to engage with your ads.

Your bid is the maximum amount you've indicated you're willing to pay per click (if bid on a CPC basis) or thousand impressions (if bid on a CPM basis) on your Facebook Ads.

This bid helps determine your ad's strength in the ad auction, and therefore its likelihood of running on the site. We'll only charge you the amount that is required for your ad to win the auction, which may be lower than your maximum bid, so we recommend you enter your true maximum when creating your ads.

A campaign is a grouping of ads you create in your account. All of the ads in a campaign share the same daily budget and schedule, but the individual ads have separate bids and targeting.

Campaigns are useful because they allow you to group ads according to whatever criteria are useful to you. For example, if you're running ads for two different businesses, you may choose to maintain a separate campaign of ads for each business. You can pull reports on a campaign level and see how that group of ads is performing.

Facebook systems determined that you were repeatedly using the same feature in a short period of time. Your activity caused your account to be flagged as potentially abusive.

It is a violation of Facebook's Terms of Use to repeatedly send the same message or to make the same post as it may be construed as spam. Facebook prides itself in protecting users from spam, and we take this standard very seriously. If you have been warned, please do not send or post any more messages with the same or similar content. Spamming on Facebook will lead to your account being permanently disabled.

Spamming is the abuse of electronic messaging systems to indiscriminately send unsolicited bulk messages. While you may not have been purposely trying to commercially solicit other users, repeatedly sending the same message or making the same post is a violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use and is considered a very serious offense.

To protect our users from spam and other unsolicited commercial messages, Facebook has imposed stringent guidelines that flag when a user repeatedly sends or posts the same message, even if you were simply trying to organize a group or event.

Facebook has several recommended alternatives that can ensure these situations don’t arise again. If you were trying to organize an event and were sending out all of the information in messages, we suggest you create a Facebook Event by going to the Events page and then clicking "Create an Event." You can then fill in all the necessary information for the event and invite all your friends using the invite feature within the event. You can also utilize the "Message All" feature, which allows you to message all guests that have RSVP’d ‘yes’ to the event.

If you were trying to promote your group by posting a link to join it in a message, on a wall, or in a discussion board, this can be construed as spam. We suggest making your friends administrators of this group so that they can invite their friends using the Invite functionality built into the group. You can do this by clicking on "Edit Group Members" and then on "make admin" next to the users’ names. Each admin can invite his/her own friends to the group.

Facebook has policies to stop behavior that other users may find annoying or abusive. Even if you did not have this intention, Facebook systems have determined that you were repeatedly using the same feature in a short period of time.

Since you did not adhere to previous warnings, a temporary block was set on your account. Here's what you should keep in mind about your block:
  • This temporary block will last anywhere from a few hours to a few days.
  • Attempting to use this feature while you are blocked can extend the block.
  • We cannot lift this block for any reason, so please be patient and refrain from using this feature for a few days while waiting for this block to be removed.
  • Once you are allowed to use this feature again, you must significantly slow down or stop this behavior. Further misuse of site features may result in more blocks or your account being permanently disabled.
Unfortunately, Facebook cannot provide any specifics on the rate limits that are enforced. The threshold at which you are warned is not a specific number, but rather determined by different factors, such as speed, time, and quantity.

Facebook has determined that you were sending messages at a rate that is likely to be abusive. Please note that these blocks can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Unfortunately, we cannot lift the block for you.

When you are allowed to resume sending messages, keep in mind that it’s possible to run into a block based on how many messages you send and how fast you send them. It’s also possible to be blocked when either starting a new message thread or replying to a message. Lastly, deleting old messages will not allow you to send more messages. In the future, please proceed with caution to avoid hitting the limit again. Please be aware that further abuse of such features can result in your account being permanently disabled.

Yes, there are costs associated with Facebook Ads. You can estimate the cost as you create your ads. If you'd like to see what we recommend you bid for each click (CPC) or thousand impressions (CPM), just enter your targeting criteria and go through to the last step of ad creation (you won't have to enter any payment information until the next step, so you can do this without purchasing an ad). The "bid estimator" will show you the range of bids that are currently winning the auction among ads similar to yours.

When you run your ad you will only be charged for the number of clicks you receive (CPC) or the number of impressions of your ad that are displayed (CPM). The amount that you are charged will never exceed your daily budget. There are no additional fees for running Facebook Ads.

For any available ad inventory, Facebook selects the best ad to run based on the cost per click or impression and ad performance. All Facebook Ads compete with each other to show for each impression, regardless of how they are bid.

If you choose a CPC model, you will bid on how much you are willing to pay for each click on your ad. If you choose a CPM model, you will bid on how much you are willing to pay for every thousand impressions (views) of your ad. In both cases, Facebook will display your ad in the right-hand Ad Space. There is no set cost for Facebook Ads, but you can estimate the cost as you create an ad. Based on this, you can determine how much you wish to spend per click or per thousand impressions. You can multiply that number by the number of clicks/thousand impressions you wish to receive each day to determine your approximate daily budget.

Your ad is more likely to perform better and continue running successfully if it is being displayed to the users who are most likely to be interested in your product or service. Because of this, we recommend targeting your ads to smaller, more specific groups of users at one time. This will also allow you to write ad text that is more personalized, making your ad more appealing to the users you are reaching.

Birthday targeting allows ads to be targeted to users on their birthdays. With this option advertisers can create highly relevant ads or highlight special offers available to users on their birthdays.

Please note that if you run an ad over a period of multiple days, the ad will be targeted to users whose birthday is the specific day when they are viewing the ad. For example, users with a January 1st birthday will see the ad on January 1, while users with a January 2nd birthday will see the ad the following day.

The country I’d like to target isn’t available.

Unfortunately, our targeting capability internationally is still somewhat limited. Certain countries, regions, and cities may not yet be available to target your ads to due to the small number of users registered on those networks. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. These locations will be made available as soon as there is enough traffic to run ads on them.

The keyword I’d like to target isn’t available.

If the keyword you’d like to target is not currently available, then this means that not enough users have listed this word in their profile information. The keywords section only targets the information that users have listed in the activities, interests, favorite music, TV shows, movies, and books sections of their profiles. Once more users have listed this keyword on their profile, we will add it as an available targeting option.

I want to target a specific high school.

Facebook Ads are not currently available to be targeted to specific high school networks. However, you can still use ads to reach the high school population. To do so, please run your ads in the geographic network(s) in which the high school(s) you wish to reach are located. You can then target your ad by age, selecting the age range "13-18" in order to display your ad to the high school students in that region.

Security: How do I report abuse?

  1. Never click suspicious links: It is possible that your friends could unwillingly send spam, viruses, or malware through Facebook if their accounts are infected. Do not click this material and do not run any ".exe" files on your computer without knowing what they are. Also, be sure to use the most current version of your browser as they contain important security warnings and protection features. Current versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer warn you if you have navigated to a suspected phishing site, and we recommend that you upgrade your browser to the most current version. You can also find more information about phishing and how to avoid it at http://www.antiphishing.org/consumer_recs.html and http://onguardonline.gov/phishing.html.

Phishing is an online attempt to trick a user by pretending to be an official login page or an official email from an organization that you would have an account with, such as a bank or an email provider, in order to obtain a user’s login and account information. In the case of a phishing login page, the login page may look identical to the login page you would normally go to, but the website does not belong to the organization you have an account with (the URL web address of the website should reflect this). In the case of a phishing email, the email may look like an email you would get from the organization you have an account with and get emails from, but the link in the email that it directs you to takes you to the above phishing login page, rather than a legitimate login page for that organization.

To prevent your account information from being obtained in a phishing scheme, only log in to legitimate pages of the websites you have an account with. For example, "www.facebook.example.com" is not a legitimate Facebook page on the "www.facebook.com" domain, but "www.facebook.com/example" is a legitimate Facebook page because it has the "facebook.com" domain. When in doubt, you can always just type in "facebook.com" into your browser to return to the legitimate Facebook site.

  2. Have a unique, strong password: From the Account Settings page, be sure to use a different password than you use for other sites or services, made up of a complex string of numbers, letters, and punctuation marks that is at least six characters in length. Do not use words found in the dictionary.

  3. Run anti-virus software: If your computer has been infected with a virus or with malware, you will need to run anti-virus software to remove harmful programs and keep your information secure.

  2. Run anti-virus software: If your computer has been infected with a virus or with malware, you will need to run anti-virus software to remove harmful programs and keep your information secure.

Facebook takes the safety of its users very seriously and takes significant efforts to make sure that the interactions encountered on the site are done so in a safe manner. We strongly urge all users to report suspicious people and inappropriate content when they come across it on the site. You can notify Facebook of any inappropriate people or content by clicking on the "Report" link located throughout the site. Users under the age of 18 are also encouraged to talk to a parent or a responsible adult immediately if someone online says or does something to make them feel uncomfortable or threatened in any way.

If you are living in the United Kingdom, under 18, and believe that an adult is acting inappropriately towards you on Facebook, please submit an online report to the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP). If you are a parent or other adult and concerned about a minor, you can also submit a report by clicking on the link above.

Automatic authentication is a very lightweight authentication model that replaced the concept of "adding" Platform applications. It was announced on the developers blog.

Automatic authentication means that if a user visits an application canvas page (whether it's an FBML- or iframe-based canvas page), Facebook will pass that visitor's user ID to the application, even if the user has not authorized the application. The UID also gets passed when a user interacts with another user's application tab.

The user ID is passed along to canvas pages as the fb_sig_canvas_user parameter. You can access it from the new version of the PHP client using: $fb->get_canvas_user();

More information is available here: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Automatic_Authentication

A suggested term will be shown if your query is very closely related to another term. However, the web search will be performed on the query you entered, as you spelled it.

For example, if you enter "johnso" as the query, "johnson" will be presented as an alternative that you can click on to search for that term, but the search results will first be returned for "johnso," in case you meant to search for the query as you typed it.

Facebook runs advertisements from its own advertising system that let your friends know if you have a direct connection with a product or service, in the same way that your friends learn through your News Feed if you're connected with another friend or an organization's Facebook Page. For example, if one of your friends becomes a fan of a Page, you may see an ad with your friend's profile photo next to it, indicating the action that friend has taken with that Page.

These social ads always require that you and your friends have taken an express action to indicate your connections with the product or service and that no data be shared with the third party. Such stories will adhere to any privacy settings you've set for your account.

You can see examples of these kinds of ads here.

Facebook does not give third party applications or ad networks the right to use your name or picture in ads. The ads you see running within application pages are served by ad networks outside of Facebook, and not by Facebook itself.

You can report concerns you have about the content or behavior of any platform application directly to the developer of that application by going to the application's About page and clicking "Report Application" at the bottom of the page, or by clicking "Report" at the bottom of any canvas page within the application.

Please note that your privacy settings for Facebook Ads do not control application behavior, but we will take action on applications that violate our Terms of Use or SSR.

Some advertisements that run on third-party applications link to services that ask for your cell phone number and subsequently send text messages to your phone. While Facebook is not responsible for these advertisements, we recommend that you send a text message containing the word "STOP" (without the quotation marks) to the number from which you're receiving the messages in order to cancel the service.

You may report an application containing these advertisements to its developer(s) and to Facebook by clicking on the "Report" link that appears in the lower left corner of any page within the application. Unfortunately, we have no control over your mobile service. We suggest you contact your mobile provider and explain the situation to them.

Help Center

If you are unable to log in to your account and are receiving a warnin...
If you are unable to log in to your account and are receiving a warning that your account appears to be compromised, Facebook has detected suspicious activity on your account and has temporarily suspended it as a security precaution. It is possible that your password was "phished," or stolen by a website designed to look like Facebook. You will be able to regain access to your account once you complete the automated security verification process. When you regain access to your account, please be sure to follow all of the suggested security precautions, including:
  1. Password Protection: You should select a unique and complex password for your account and keep this entirely to yourself. Be sure that you use a complex string of numbers, letters, and punctuation marks that is at least six characters in length. It should also be different from other passwords you use elsewhere on the internet.
  2. Private Browsing: Please make sure that you log out of your Facebook account and quit your browser when you’re done using the site. This is especially important when using a public computer or someone else's mobile device. You should also never check the "Keep me logged in" box when logging in from a public computer, as this will keep you logged in even after you close your browser window.
  3. Secure Email: Since anyone who can read your email can probably also access your Facebook account, you should make sure that any email addresses associated with your account are secure. To ensure security, you should change the password for all of your email accounts and make sure that no two are the same. By varying your passwords, you can greatly decrease your account’s risk of being compromised in the future.
  4. Security Question: If you have not done so already, you should add a security question to your account from the Account Settings page. You should choose a question and answer that you will remember, and no one else should be able to answer the question that you choose.
  5. Log in at Facebook.com: Make sure that when you access the site, you always log in from a legitimate Facebook page with the facebook.com domain. Do not click any unfamiliar links and do not run any executable files (files ending in .exe) on your computer without knowing what they are. If something looks or feels suspicious, go directly to www.facebook.com to log in.
  6. Run Anti-Virus Software: If your computer has been infected with a virus or with malware, you will need to run anti-virus software to remove these harmful programs and keep your information secure.

While you are not guaranteed any number of clicks or impressions, ther...
While you are not guaranteed any number of clicks or impressions, there are often a variety of easy ways to improve your ads. Here are some simple techniques that may help you optimize your ad and increase your return on investment:

Bid Competitively
-For any given ad unit, we select the best ad to run based on the cost per click or cost per thousand impressions and ad performance. Therefore, if you are not receiving as many clicks or impressions as you would like, we suggest increasing your maximum cost per click or maximum CPM.

Be Relevant
-One way to do this is by targeting users who have interests listed in their profile that are related to your business. Make sure you are using relevant keyword targeting, but also think outside the box. Find related keywords of users who may not explicitly mention your product but are interested in similar products/services.

Encourage Action
-Make sure that your ad text includes a strong call to action such as "Click Here!" or "Order online today!". By doing so, you are giving the user an idea of what to expect if they click on your ad.

Get Visual
-Use relevant and compelling images that directly related to the product/service you are promoting. Make sure this images are eye catching and speak directly to your audience.

Think Simple
-Make sure that the landing site you are advertising is easy to navigate and that the landing page presents information related to the ad prominently and clearly.

Rinse, Wash, Repeat
-Find what works and what doesn't work continue to iterate on your campaigns. Constantly refresh your creative after a couple of days to ensure that your ads do not become stale. This could be as simple as using a different image or ad title.
