More than 40,000 runners started the 2009 New York City Marathon on Sunday, the 40th time the race was run.

The elite men's field featured some of the United State's top distance runners competing against a premier international field.

these guys are impressive....with all the hills around NY and bridges.....gosh! completing the Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island would be a challenge.
