I am not saying we forever condemn him. But we do need to hold him to his word. Certain things like don't ask don't tell and legal gay marriage could be solved with an executive order and that would be that. He also has not decreased force in iraq. Defence contractors anyone? He has not taken a hard line against anything that will really change ... See Moreanything, especialy healthcare. All these anti-abortion and and spending limit amendments to the bill only give neo cons more fuel to complain about how long the bill is. Obama needs to grab the country by the balls and get things done.

Nobody expects instant results. However, it would be nice if this guy could pull his head out of his ass long enough to accomplish SOMETHING to further our country and stop digging the hole deeper. At some point you've got to stop pointing fingers, be an adult, and own the situation that you are supposedly CHANGING.

Exactly, Marc. I gave money, made phone calls, knocked on doors for this man, but right now, I wouldn't spend four bucks on a shirt with him on it. I campaigned for a liberal, not this pusilanimous centrist we have.

It's unfair for people to expect him to turn everything around over night. There's a lot for him to work on. They're blaming the deficit on him. Why is no blame going to Bush due to the amount he spent on Iraq?

He inherited a huge mess, and has to work within the confines of our political system. He can't single-handedly change everything - that would require a dictatorship, and I don't think anyone would advocate that. Take a deep breath and let the man work!!

I realize change takes time, and congress being owned by the corporations is a huge obstacle. However, three things have made me reassess what I think about Obama. First, he has continued (and in some cases expanded) the Executive power grabs put in place by Cheney. Second, he has continued the Cheney regime's abuse of secrecy and spying on ... See MoreAmericans. Third -- and the final straw for me -- he has not supported a meaningful public option on health care reform and hence not supported the core component of meaningful health care reform. You know it's a terrible situation when members of congress are saying *in public* things like "Where's Obama?", "We really could use his support right now", regarding health care legislation. I am very unwilling, but I have to face the fact that we all got punked. The alternative to Obama was (and is) unthinkable. But we're still waiting for any indication whatsoever of "change we can believe in" from this president. I did *not* vote for a timid, center-right technocratic corporatist, which is what it appears we got. Obama had a very clear, very huge mandate from us, and thus far he has not delivered and -- most alarmingly -- gives no sign of ever delivering on that mandate. I would be the first to throw a party at being proved wrong on this, but I don't think that is going to happen, and it makes me very sad and upset.

Don't Ask Don't Tell policy could be changed by executive order -- and he hasn't. And he's never spoken out about gay rights. And he's digging us deeper into Afghanistan. And he's kept the rendition program. And he hasn't regulated Wall Street -- or stood up to them.
I worked hard for him and I agree that he's a timid centrist -- not the leader we hoped for.

Ditto on Marc and Joanna's posts. I'm removing myself from this fan page. Obama = huge disappointment. Way to run as a liberal and then move to the right of center, Obama. And thanks for abandoning the LGBTQ base that helped you win office.

Rebecca: continued faith requires at least some evidence of delivering on the promises that generated that faith. Thus far, zilch. Hence the unrest and valid criticism. I don't expect problems of the magnitude we're facing to be solved by now or anytime soon. That would be entirely unreasonable, given the (mostly Rethuglican) obstacles. But I do ... See Morethink that someone who takes seriously the overwhelming mandate handed to him would be responsible and show in no uncertain terms that he intends to deliver on that mandate or (politically) die trying. Thus far, literally zilch -- and hence the growing disillusionment.

It's like a 2-year-old who is told to clean up their room. All that can be seen is chaos. So, we have them start with the obvious - dirty underwear and socks, and proceed to paper trash, then shoes into the right place, and clothes into the hamper, then toys back in the toybox. When a child has not been led, and has been allowed to become out of ... See Morecontrol it takes some time, good advice, careful guidance, and trust to teach them to stop taking money out of their piggy bank for treats. Good grief, the man is up against a Leviathan who has trashed the country and only wants to play by itself. We can't let the selfish child be in control an any household! We are not "caring or good parents" if we let the kids get out of hand. They have to be told NO.

there's still much to do, but at least he's WORKING. that's better than the last guy. AT least I'm not ashamed of the President.
and he seems to garner respect from some people around the world. And, yes, that IS important. esp if you want to get stuff done

I think people are not so much questioning the enormity of what needs to be done and what has been accomplished so far but the standing on principle piece of it. I think promises made and lines were drawn during the campaign that are now being shifted and moved. Don't try to please everybody since nobody is going to like it at the end.
