I may not even be able to wear both for a while due to a broken foot (but I can wear at least one!), but so what? :-) Who doesn't love new shoes?

Sales of footwear were up sharply in September and October, possibly because they are a less expensive way to indulge.

Last thing: Shoes, like the rest of your outfit, is a form of expression. You don't want to say the wrong thing, do you?

A new breed of children’s movies play a kind of reverse dress-up, disguising adult anxieties in the costumes of innocent make-believe and fanciful spectacle.

"disguising"? There was no disguise - that was a very clear example of anger, depression, and sadness, followed by clarity. Achingly sad, but beautifully formed.

SERIOUSLY??? THAT was the most rediculous movie I have EVER seen and a HUGE WASTE OF MONEY!!! It seemed as though 4 year olds wrote and directed the movie and had Mr Snuffalufagus and Big Bird as their top stars! It was VERY poorly written...even my friends 5 year old daughter was not amused or even slightly intrigued by it! I have honestly never ... See Morebeen so disappointed by a movie as I was with this one. If you haven't seen it in the theatre yet and still want to see it (for some reason), I would suggest waiting until it comes out on video and rent it from a Red Box...at least then you will only waste a buck on it instead of $50+!

i'm thinking some of you need to look a little bit closer at children's literature; it's never as it appears to be. most authors are always portraying adult emotions as something else, so that children are not afraid. i thought it was fantastic, and i was glad to see my favorite children's book adapted so well.

i agree with malachi: visually beautiful indeed. however, i'm not so sure it's for kids. the children who were taken to see it at the the theater where i saw it, were restless. i think it's a great movie for therapists...not a happy, feel-good Disney, by any means.

This movie was a poor representation of the book.t had no redeeming values. Max did not mature, he fostered all things negative. The book explores coming of age, and a realization of feelings. The movie- not so much.

It was so stark. It was an introduction to passive-aggression and other dysfunctional personalities that my kids found disturbing and I found too akin to depression to enjoy. It felt like I took my well-rounded, happy-homed 5-year-old to his first heartbreak.

I'm not saying it wasn't beautifully done and meaningful. It was just the wrong audience for it. At least, WE were the wrong audience. And this was a family that liked Pan's Labyrinth.

Please understand, everyone: Spike Jonze never intended for this to be a children's movie. Although it was a children's book originally, he wanted to tailor it to it's first generation of readers from when it was published in 1963. He stated very clearly that you shouldn't bring your 5 year old to see it.
I loved the movie. Though the book and the... See More movie were supposed to be different, the movie's biggest fan and supporter was Sendak himself. I felt like the movie filled in where the book couldn't, and I loved the on-screen Max more than the book Max. And I really don't think the book displayed a better maturation of Max than the movie did. In fact, you never see him talk to his mom again in the book, he's just grateful he doesn't have to re-heat his soup.

The cinematography was good but to be frank the movie bit the bullet in my opinion. I loved the childrens book as a child and could imagine the characterization pretty well in my mind at the time. Seeing this movie made me sad, because they've tainted the characters in my mind. Some things should stay as they were and left alone. It went from being... See More a fun and imaginative story to something sad and depressing! This was a movie made to bolster someone's ego, not made for everyone. Agree or disagree, that's your choice, but don't accuse someone of not 'getting it' just because their opinion differs from yours.

I didn't expect most people to understand it, and I felt this was as much of a children's movie as Pan's Labyrinth, Tidelands, or The Fall, meaning it was for the child inside of adults, but not necessarily children. I loved it, to be honest, and it grew on me even days after seeing it. I realized that Spike Jonze cleverly portrayed the strange, ... See Morescary, wonder that is a child's imagination. I feel that he was respectful of the book, instead of simply taking the book and turning it into a movie, he made his own artistic interpretation which may be severely misunderstood, but did not go unappreciated by me and my inner child.
I think this article brings up a valid point, that recent films are "disguising adult anxieties in the costumes of innocent make-believe and fanciful spectacle", and it's not such a bad thing.

i sat next to a 5 year old and 4 year old they squealed laughed at all the grown up jokes and were never scared. i think we as parents forget to let go and let our kids actually experience and gain an opinion for themselves. How else will they mold into people?
